6 Unique Reasons To Be Thankful For Social Media
Social media is a big and beautiful thing humans have created. If you couldn’t tell, we like it quite a lot!
Little did we know how much it would change us and allow us to use its powers for so much good and change!
Just because Thanksgiving has passed doesn’t mean we need to stop being thankful. Social media especially has given us reasons every day to be so.
Here are some reasons why Vult Lab is thankful this year (and every other year) for the opportunities and fun social media gives us!
1. Social media introduces the world to small business!
#SmallBusinessSaturday is tomorrow! Amidst all of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday madness, we cannot forget to #ShopSmall and #ShopLocal. One of the most amazing things social media has offered everyone is a platform for new entrepreneurs to chase their dreams. If you have an idea, no matter how big or small, you can make it happen with socials!
Because of social media’s inherent ability to advertise to such a global platform, it can make even the smallest idea flourish. It is social media we can thank for so many cool products and ideas existing in the world because it is the platform for them to get their visions out!
2. Social media makes it easy to support charitable causes.
(This is one of our personal favorites!)
Not only are we thankful for the world’s charities and the hard work they do every day to make the world a better place, but social media allows us to help them even more. Here are a few:
Spread their messages by sharing posts and gaining awareness with hashtags (like #GivingTuesday)
Engage with advertising campaigns by writing your own posts or creating images to promote the cause
Help individual employees to promote goodness by helping monitor their analytics, socials, and graphics
What if there isn’t a branch of your favorite charity for you to volunteer at? Look no further—it’s easy nowadays to pop an email or DM over to your favorite one and help with their social media. You can even assist without talking to anyone at all—just by sharing their most recent initiatives to your follower base! All good help helps!
Make sure not forget #GivingTuesday happens this Tuesday, November 27th!
3. Social media saves us time (and money)!
The most obvious social that does this is Pinterest. Think of how many at-home hacks you’ve found or DIYs which have made you put a little extra change aside for your vacation abroad. It also saves us time pondering far too long about gift ideas or how to decorate our space.
Another example is websites like LinkedIn and Monster—job hunting social medias which save us the time of having to drive miles and miles to network when we can do it from the comfort of our own phones. Not only does this save us money in mileage or other expenses, it can potentially put more money in our wallets if we’re lucky!
4. Social media provides comfort in knowing our loved ones are safe.
It is so easy for humans to see a natural disaster or tragedy occur in the news, think of our loved ones near that area, and panic for their safety. Especially with Facebook’s Crisis Response feature, we don’t have to fear anymore or send incessant text messages in anxiety waiting for a response.
Social media has given us the ability to tell hundreds of people at once “I’m safe”. What’s a better thing to be thankful for?
5. Social media provides endless education.
Social media influencers provide us so many opportunities (and discounts) for options to learn just about anything we set our mind to. With YouTube, it is easy for us to educate ourselves on any topic or skill. We can also use their reach to our advantage if one of our favorite content creators gets a sponsorship from platforms like Skillshare or any number of financial assistance apps so we can learn on the cheap from highly-rated platforms.
6. Social media allows me to stay connected.
It’s the most obvious, but it will forever remain the most important. Because of social media, we can chat for free with family across continents. Because of social media, we can meet our eventual spouse. Because of social media, we can connect to individuals with similar beliefs and perspectives to feel included or eventually incite global change.
And that’s only scratching the surface!
It is so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of the social internet. There are so many hashtags and memes, we can sometimes lose sight of what’s important and what good is happening on our screens.
Remind yourself today why social media is a reason to be thankful this holiday season!
P.S. Big shout out and thanks to everyone who has supported, helped, and shared the story of Vult Lab! We also want to thank our clients who believe in our work and make our dreams a reality. We send you the biggest virtual hug.
